Over 30 football viewers die in Calabar during ManUtd's game against Anderlecht

By ifeanyia (M)April 21, 2017, 12:46:13 AM
Over 30 people have lost their lives at a football viewing centre in Calabar, Cross River state capital, after high tension electricity cable broke from its mooring and fell on the roof of the building. According to Channels TV, the football fans were said to have assembled at the centre to watch a UEFA Europa League quarter-final match between Manchester United and Anderlecht on satellite television, a game the host won 2-1 (3-2) on aggregate to advance to the semi-final.

This is a failure on the part of the electricity distribution company. All that they understand is collect money from nigerians. Maintenance of infrastructure is inexistent.

Sad tragedy!... The phcn company should be sued because they cause this... On the other hand,..I wonder why a viewing centre should be located under high tension cables.

This is when Yoruba people say, "onile ni lowo, alejo di seru"... I will try to translate that, hopefully it will make enough sense...
The host is wicked, the guest is no exception either.

In this case, if we choose to find fault... We will discover plenty:

The government, for improper town planning. The electricity distribution company for improper conduct (for example, in my village power supply is usually interrupted at the slightest glimpse of turbulence in any form which can "make cables meet men and men meet cables"). The owner of the viewing center, for not caring enough about his customers' welfare. The customers for visiting the dangerous place, leaving their lives to chance.

But in all, this is a tragedy. We hope this will never be repeated!
