Former Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen has said even though he counts himself as eminently qualified to apply for the vacant office of manager of the senior national football team, he is not interested, at least for now.

Speaking with reporters after the unveiling of the Jay-Jay Okocha Foundation in Lagos yesterday, Eguavoen said his interest was more on how to further develop himself.

“I know before you count three coaches in Nigeria, you sure would count me, but I am not interested. I need to take some time off, hone my skills and come back in a bigger way. That’s my immediate plan,” Eguavoen said.

He called on Nigerians to rally round whoever the Nigeria Football Federation would eventually pick as coach of the national team. “As for me, I would be fine with whoever the NFF settles for, but they should be fast about it because the World Cup qualifiers are fast approaching and we are in a very strong group.”

He was however, confident the Eagles will do well if they start strongly. “If we start well, perhaps with a win or a draw in Zambia, we can qualify,” he said.

Nigeria is in Group B of the African World Cup qualifiers alongside Africa’ s number 1 ranked team, Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia.

The qualifiers begin in October with the Eagles travelling to Zambia against the Chipolopolo in Lusaka.

Bros don't worry.
When we need you we go find you.
But first, like you said, get training and qualify for the position first.
We are tired of failures handing the super eagles!
