HIM WE PREACH Weekly Journal.
Bible Text: John 4:28-30, 40-42
Reference Scripture: John 4:42 KJV
And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: FOR WE HAVE HEARD FROM HIM OURSELVES, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.
It has pleased the LORD to send us his word this day from the book of Saint John chapter four (4), and our attention today is centered on the people the Samaritan woman preached to and what they said afterward, which is very crucial in today's journal.
The scripture tells us about the Samaritan woman and Jesus at the well and how Jesus Christ finally succeeded in preaching to her and she got converted. This woman then went forth to preach to other Samaritans according to our Bible text. John 4:28-29 KJV "The woman then left her water-pot, and went her way into the city, and said to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?"
She began to tell people about Jesus, who he was and what he could do, she said in her message, "is not this the Christ?" Then the people she ministered to began to search for Christ themselves, according to verse 30,.."Then they went out of the city and came unto him." That is, this people that she preached to now came to Jesus; they came to Jesus Christ on their own volition, with their hearts.
At this junction I will like us to note what the people DIDN'T do after she preached unto them. (1) They didn't go to Apostles, Prophets, Pastors or Teachers. (2) They didn't go to the Pharisees and the Sadducees. (3) They didn't go back to the woman, but rather they came to Jesus Christ.
Now let’s look at what they said after they came to Jesus from our reference scripture, John 4:42 KJV "And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world." These people said to the woman, “NOW” and I want to believe we all know what that means "NOW!" Translate it into your dialect and hear how it will sound. I believe it will make more meaning to us. All the people she preached to said, "NOW" we believe. What then happened to them first when the woman preached to them? You may agree with me, that they were saying to the woman, although you have preached to us but your message has not fully grabbed our hearts, it has not fully circumcised our hearts, it has not created an indelible mark in our hearts, although we heard but "NOW" we believe, it was just like mere water that had not solidified, until we found him ourselves and we could then indeed say, "Now we believe". Why?, all because, we have found Jesus ourselves and not man.
So they said, now we believe not BECAUSE OF THY SAYING: FOR WE HAVE HEARD HIM OURSELVES. I pray for someone today may you hear him yourself.
The point of emphasis today is this "heard him ourselves", unfortunately today so many men have not heard him by themselves, they have heard from men, media, Apostles and Prophets but have not heard from ‘HIM’. We are not saying it is wrong to hear from human vessels, neither are we saying it is wrong to hear from Apostles, Prophets, Pastors, Teachers and others , in fact the scripture tells us, according to the book of Ephesians 4 that they are ministerial offices and God has given them as a gift to build the body of Christ. However, if a Christian will only build his life upon what he hears from outside alone we can indeed say he is building on shambles, or he is building on a weak foundation or on sand.
We have heard from the LORD that, this generation is characterized by men that have heard from men only but have not heard from HIM. We see most of them on our pulpits these days, we see the way they talk, sing and preach. For a sensitive man, you need not be told that these are men that have heard from men only and not from HIM.
May we submit this divine principle, procedure, order and protocol to us that as we hear from men we must likewise hear from HIM. The men of Samaria followed this precept, in fact that was what the Berea Christians did, as they heard from men they went and searched the scriptures to hear from HIM, whether those things were so.
Brethren at this juncture, we want to ask you, have you been hearing from Him? What have you heard from Him? What has he taught you that you can say you got this from the LORD and it has become life in you? Or have you been serving with much service in his vineyard and it appears that you have not heard from Him? If you have heard from him, why this wickedness, why this hypocrisy? We have two kinds of Christian in our study context today, those that have heard from men alone and those that have heard from men and have likewise heard from Him. Which one are you? If you have heard from Him, ask yourself ‘what have I heard from Him?’ Ponder on this, brethren and seek the LORD.
If you are yet to give your life to Jesus or have missed the way, you can call upon Him today . Jesus will indeed save!
