What is your personal opinion about how to fix Nigeria? Share it

The question is straight forward.

Hint: Get as creative as you want because that is how problems are solved.

Problems are not solved by creating "no-go areas".

You can suggest ANYTHING you want... as long as you tell us how that solves the problem.

If you don't think that the country has any problems, you can say so as well, and give your reasons.

Belief and consistency of purpose

The most conspicuous of thing about Nigeria as a nation is that we need a change - I'm not talking about government alone. Even the people with the loudest of voices that Nigeria should do better, we should manage our time better, our resources should be well utilized etc these lot don't actually believe in what they say; at least many of them don't. Where's the drive, the zeal to actually make it work if you don't believe that it can?

Methinks, Nigerians should start believing that Nigeria can work - we have to believe the country can work, only then can we really device means, create solutions instead of making up excuses and cooking up problems here and there.

Restructuring

This, for me, cannot be overemphasized when this kind of subject is discussed in fact it is imperative that we keep getting it out there at every chance we get so that one day it will be done.

Every sane Nigerian knows we've needed this for decades.

Fund our Technical Schools

The world economy is leaning towards "what you can do", "how much of your knowledge you can apply"... Here there's too much read into our classes of degrees, grades are so important they are easily the first thing considered during recruitment - I'm not saying grades shouldn't be considered - but technical know how should be at the forefront so we get the best of workforces in the market.

These technical schools are underrated and out nation is paying for this. Isn't one of our major problems in Nigeria how to stabilize supply of power? There are potential world class engineers in Nigeria (I say this because I believe we are enormously gifted) but our system of education promotes "la cram, la pour" (where students are asked to garbage out whatever the teachers have scribbled in their notebooks and not necessarily to apply those teachings to real-life situations and work out solutions to problems).

Nigeria can return to it's best if we can return to our status quo.
1. Go back to regional government or return back to Southern and Northern Nigeria which was how it was before Sir Lord Lugard amalgamated us(I believe North and South of Nigeria are two immicible liquid or gas, it will explode if kept together by force).
2. Restructuring:
Every sector needs restructuring.
Our Education should be restructured as well, more funds should be pumped into technical education, our Polytechnic and Colleges of Education should be upgraded to degree awarding institutions and Postgraduate awarding institutes.
More scholarship and busary opportunities should be available.
Our political systems need restructuring as well.
Power and electricity generation should be improved, more energy generating scheme could be harnessed(solar, nuclear etc)
Diversifying our Economy
Some of our Mineral resources have not been mined or underutilized, government should start doing more to utilize them, we can get more resources from coal, steel rolling Mills, Marble and granite etc
Tourism and hospitality can also be harnessed to get more resources.
Etc

This statement reminds me of the fact that Nigerian standardized tests don't really test for analytical reasoning or critical thinking. This is a missing link in the Nigerian education system.
A first grade student in the US is already being taught that, and it follows the student all through the future years of education!
A graduate of arts or humanities in Nigeria can't really think in ways that question rote or norms or "settled facts". In analytical reasoning, nothing is really settled; everything is questionable. It is in that realm of thought process that problem solving and innovation thrives!

The Jamaican architect girl in Japan was making a point like that whereby her co-architects at the firm were asking her "but what do you think?" And she was like "OK, let's roll!".

Nigerian graduates lack that. But it can be included in the curriculum.

Great points.

Until the Zamfara bandit wars started, who knew that Nigeria has billions of dollars worth of gold untapped underground in Zamfara?

One of Nigeria's CHIEF problem is just wickedness. Plain and simple.

Can you imagine this type of selfishness?

People have been killed in south east, south south and south west (ikorodu militants) over oil resources, because they were deemed thieves of our collective wealth.

But what about Zamfara locals who have mined gold quietly for years, making billions of dollars?

These are the reasons why Nigeria needs fundamental restructuring to achieve political stability.

Without political stability, economic stability can NEVER be achieved.
