…Petitions ECOWAS, AU on continued closure of Enugu Airport

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has urged Igbo and the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to support the cause for an Igbo Presidency come 2023, and jettison their quest for the realization of Biafra independence.

The group argued that it would be better for IPOB to back 2023 Igbo Presidency which it said was easier, and nearer than Biafra realization.

Disclosing this in a statement signed by both the President and Secretary General, Mazi Okechukwu isiguzoro and Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the group said it would inaugurate a new 2023 National Committee on Igbo presidency project, with a clear mandate to reach out to all the Youth leaders, opinion leaders, respected Statesmen, Traditional Rulers, Religious leaders, Women leaders and students in all the zones.

The group equally stated that it would lobby Stakeholders in the two major political parties, through strong persuasion to break new barriers and build bridges across Six Geo political Zones.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide said it would appeal to the conscience of the political actors to concede 2023 Presidential tickets to Igbo Speaking States which Rivers and Delta States are inclusive.

Read the statement below:

“South East remains an integral part of Nigeria, and in other to address all manner of ill feelings like perceived marginalization and Biafra agitation, Nigerians irrespective of tribe and religion know that for unity, justice, fairness and equity to reign, Igbo should be supported to take a shot at the Presidency in 2023.

“It’s glaring to all Igbo that Igbo Presidency project is closer to achieve than Biafra realization. The process of achieving Biafra independence is more cumbersome and complicated compared to Igbo Presidency project which is closer and easier.

“Irrespective of the fact that Igbo, IPOB believe in Biafra independence, United Nations are yet to receive documents on Biafra independence. Or has the European Parliament open discussion on Biafra? We are fully aware of the limitations of Biafra agitation.

“Yes we have been through economic hardships, through various nefarious activities of some corrupt customs officers who unleashed untold hardship on Igbo importers/exporters and traders.

“That is why we should opt to 2023 Igbo Presidency as a re affirmative action towards our togetherness as one tribe.

“We have petitioned international bodies like Petitions ECOWAS, AU on the sinister motives behind the Closure of Akanu ibiam International Airport Enugu for 43 days now without a single rehabilitation work going on.

“After our observation and warnings to the Minister for Aviation, Hadi Sirika last week, the General Manager Corporate affairs, Mrs Herrietta Yakubu hurriedly dished out  Press release to the public that work will soon begin till now Weeds have taken over the airport.

“We appreciate the untiring efforts of the South East Governors led by Gov Dave Umahi for all their efforts in unifying and securing the Igbo region.

“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to give Presidential order to the ministry of Works and housing to rescind on the obnoxious policy of erecting toll Gate in our federal highways.

“Our roads are bad and had worsened during this raining season. It’s like adding salt to injury by erecting toll Gates on bad roads.

“Imaging erecting toll Gates on Enugu-Ph roads (Aba Axis) which is a death trap or a toll Gates on Aba/Calabar Expressways overtaken by bushes and hunters are having a great day.

“Or a toll gate on ontisha/akokwa/okigwe Expressways which is now a trekking routes only for bicycles and motorcycles,

“Is it Abaomoge ugep Road, or ohafia/Arochukwu/Calabar Expressways whose only bridge connecting Abia State had collapsed.

“Or is it Enugu/Onitsha Expressways that you will erect toll Gates and expect Igbo to pay… Federal Executive Council on its valedictory sessions on May 22nd 2019 approved the Expansion and rehabilitation of Aba/Calabar Expressways road, Rehabilitation of Ikot Ekpene/Umuahia Expressways, dualization of Owerri/Umuahia Expressways, dualization of Aba/Owerri Expressway, Abaomoge ugep Road, and the same Minister Fashola is yet to commence work on any of these roads.

“Erecting toll Gates will send wrong signals, Presidency should suspend and scrape such obnoxious policy, its Anti people’s policy.”

Key issues in this article depict the plight of the Igbo as a group, and it didn't have to be so.
I shall do my best to analyze some of those issues, and in the end leave any Nigerian reading it to ponder what it means to be Igbo in Nigeria. Hint: My views are flat (unemotional) because I believe that over-emotion and lack of strategic insight is the Igbo's greatest undoing as a group.
We tend to compare ourselves to the Jew, but if the Jew had been even 10% as clueless and as nonstrategic as the Igbo, they would have been wiped out since.
Next is my submission...

This statement typifies what is wrong with the mindset of some of these people that claim to speak for Igbo.
The Ohanaeze Youth Council has, once again, demonstrated that it lacks deep insight on what Nigeria is, and how things are done in Nigeria.

Speaking of Nigerian politics and conscience in the same sentence demonstrates deep lack of understanding and insight of what Nigeria is.

Nigerian politics does not operate on the basis of conscience; if it did Atiku would be president today, and he is NOT.

If you want a political position in Nigeria, you go home, sit down and embark on SERIOUS strategic thinking. Find out the pain points of stakeholders, and put as much pressure as possible to force their hands.
You find their balls and squeeze ... until they release your lot. Simple.

When Nigeria decided that two Yoruba sons should run for presidency in 1999, it was because the Yoruba had SERIOUS plans to leave the Nigerian union (in light of what happened to Abiola) if something like that (power shift to them) didn't happen. The North figured that if the Yoruba left, the Igbo would not be stuck in Nigeria with them either. So, they caved. The rest is history ... to the extent that the Yoruba are even eyeing the presidency again for the second time, while some Igbo are busy (like this group of clueless and wayward "igbo youths") seeking conscience in the middle of the jungle.

Whenever groups like Ohaneze Youth Council speaks, I make quick to remind myself that "Igbo" is really a multi-ethnic nation (I believe that every language group in the east starting from Benin all the way to Cross rivers are Igbo nationality of different languages). So, that is why someone from Anambra might hold one view and another from Abia might hold a totally opposite view. There is a strength as well as a weakness in that.
Personally I do not believe that Igbo leadership should be rotated among the Igbo speaking states (because honestly that is how we get fools speaking for us at critical times). I believe that the Igbo should always assemble the best brains to speak for them even if every member comes from ONE state in the east.

Since the demise of Dr Dozie Ikedife, the Ohanaeze (main Ohanaeze) has not really stepped up to play the Nigerian politics the way that gets us results. The Nnia Nwodo led group is trying but they still have a sense of emotional appeals and sentiments while dealing with matters that may even pose existential threat to the Igbo nation.

There is no need to belabour the point that the Igbo are still Nigerians (so far), but I do not believe that addressing the issues of injustice against the Igbo in Nigeria should be discussed in the same breath as the topic of Biafra agitation.
They two may appear related, but if you look closely, you would find that they may not even be related at all.

Yes, some Nigerians relate the two -they want the Igbo to "suffer for ever" for daring to secede from Nigeria, so they design longterm containment policy that oppress, suppress and destroy Igbo future.

But it is not obvious to me that Igbo should engage with those Nigerians in "Nigerian politics". In dealing with such people, Ndigbo should not only think outside the box, but get rig of the box entirely.

Such Nigerians can NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS repent.

If you want something in Nigeria, you go get it INSPITE of those people.

And you can do it without even whispering the word Biafra or secession.

They would be there watching you helplessly while you get your lot.

The Fulani operates that way in Nigeria. They hardly talk or engage in meaningful dialogue. They simply define their interests, design a plan of action that often runs for DECADES, and simply implement it stage by stage.

The other day a whole governor elected under the so called Nigerian constitution declared on a national television that Fulanis from all over Africa would be free to resettle in Nigeria, and he said it with little sense of others' interests in Nigeria.

The responses from the south have been to simply reject Ruga or NLTP, or waterways bill. But nobody is even speaking on the fact that if/when the Fulani completes that plan (of resettling non-Nigerian Fulanis into Nigeria) the Fulani would almost overnight be eligible to claim that they are the single largest ethnic group in Nigeria.

Can you imagine the geopolitical implication of such outcome?

Overnight the Fulani (having imported all their kith from Africa and settling them ALL OVER NIGERIA), can claim to own Nigeria due to population and spread in Nigeria. They can tell the international community that Nigeria is theirs by right. And this can happen within 4 years of the remaining Buhari regime!

Those are the type of things that these Ohanaeze Youths should be pondering rather than some amorphous and hollowed out presidency who would be embedded in the middle of Fulani ethnic supremacists at EVERY corner of federal government. What can such a president do?

Jonathan could not even implement a plan agreed by all Nigerians in a national conference. He was so intimidated by his surrounding in Aso rock that he couldn't implement it and kept kicking the ball farther down the road. He was saved by his defeat in 2015, because I personally do not believe that he could have implemented that plan even if given 8 more years in office! That is how deep and bad the situation is.

If you say that Igbo are Nigerians, that means that you have FULL rights to embark on the same thing that other Nigerians embark on to get their interests. You may have to copy them if you lack the brains to figure out your own strategy afterall only few ideas are original anyway.

It is NOT glaring to me, and I am a FULL blooded Igbo man. :))

The Nigerian presidency has been promised the Igbo since Ekwueme was supposed to succeed Shagari in 1987 -a whopping 32 years ago! The Buhari coup of 1983/84 truncated that march to Igbo presidency.

Again in 1999, the same Ekwueme was essentially shoved aside to make way for Obasanjo (after Ekwueme had led the ouster of the military regime of Abacha), and that is 20 years ago. That promise has been there and somehow NEVER happen. But that is even taking it too far...

Simple second Niger bridge (a public infrastructure that would be used by ALL Nigerians) has been kept in a perpetual political ring. They just allocated money to it, AGAIN, this year. We shall only see it when we see it!

As for what IPOB may be doing internationally, only Nnamdi Kanu himself would know how close they are to getting UN backing for a referendum. So, unless Kanu speaks on the matter, it would be presumptuous to assume that Nigerian presidency (as windy as it is) that some Igbo have termed "o no nso eru aka"(ever closer and ever more distant!) is easier to achieve.

I understand that some of us want to remain Nigerians, but it is strategic mistake to force yourself on a country that does not value you, or a country that has sworn to make you suffer.

This seems to be the ONLY move you've made that may actually bring results.

That airport is what I call "finger in the wind". The people who vowed to make Igbo suffer are so evil and so wicked that they cannot even get themselves to act as if they are fair to all Nigerians.

I once had an argument with a friend as to whether Nigerians are more wicked or just more dumb.

My position was that Nigerians are just dumb, while my friend insisted that wickedness in the problem.

I argued that Nigerian as so dumb that they cannot even control their wickedness to achieve a semblance of sanity for their environment; but my friend argued that Nigerians are so wicked that they cannot even think!
Chicken and egg case!

People responsible for shutting down this airport and shutting down the eastern ports, thereby forcing untold hardships down the throats of 70 million Eastern Nigerians, should actually be tried for war crimes.

People are dying on the roads from east to west just to access their most basic infrastructural entitlements (things that other part of Nigeria -north and west enjoy).

Time has come for Igbo to start taking such people to task internationally as well as locally, rather than just complaining all the time.

Will the Northerners allow the Igbo's to get Presidency? I think getting Biafra is easier.
