SA President Ramaphosa

Ghana is the latest country to be granted a visa-free status by the South African government.

South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs has added Ghana to a list of seven countries whose nationals will be permitted to enter South Africa visa-free.

Nigeria was not included despite the large volume of trade between the two countries.

South Africa announced in September 2018, that it was finalising a number of visa waiver agreements with other countries including Ghana to allow travellers to enter the country without a visa.

According to the Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, citizens of the seven countries are able to enter South Africa without a visa.

“Tourism will soar if we relax visa requirements for entry into South Africa. We know that Tourism is very important for job creation,” he said today at a briefing in South Africa.

“Out of the 193 countries who are member states of the United Nations, the Department has granted visa-free status to 75 countries. Of these 16 are in our continent and are SADC members and 59 are from all over the world.” (NAN)

Nigeria and Ghana may be West African neighbours, but the differences between the two countries are remarkable.
For starters Ghana can conduct credible free and fair elections; Nigeria cannot.
Ghana can provide 24/7 electricity to herself; Nigeria cannot.
In Ghana, there is no special ethnic group; they quickly dealt decisively with killer herdsmen, and they ran away. In Nigeria the herdsmen rule and kill freely.
The list can go on.
Methinks that the situation would have been totally different if South Africa were to be dealing with Arewa, Oduduwa and Biafra countries. I know for sure that each of those countries would be as big and as stable as Ghana.
For now, what we have in place is a lose-lose-lose arrangement for the inhabitants of "Niger area".
The most painful thing is that countries like South Africa make more money in Nigeria than Nigeria ever makes in SA, but it doesn't matter because Nigeria depends on SA for even telephones and world-class shopping malls.
So Nigeria can't do anything about this.
Nigerians want to go to SA more than SA people want to go to Nigeria. These things are not emotional.
Until we do the needful in our part of Africa, these things will continue even with our children.

Nigerians are more willing to move to RSA, Ghanians rarely go to RSA, because their country is also nice. Our government need to work on Nigeria, we deceive ourselves by the appellation "giant of Africa".
