The residents, under the aegis of Anambra State Welfare Association Malaysia, ASWAM, said the situation had become embarrassing, adding that they would no longer tolerate it.

Chairman of the group, Mr Okwunwanne Mmaduka, said they were not only faced with the problem of sex trafficking, but also the issue of kidnappings in Malaysia .

He denied the insinuation that every Igbo staying in Malaysia were usually dubbed kidnap perso,  adding that most of them were doing genuine businesses and studying at the same time.

He said that to state the true situ action, they would meet the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe and other monarchs, Governor Willie Obiano and other stakeholders to brief them on the worrisome trend.

According to him, the group receives over 20 complaints each week on the activities of the traffickers, adding that a lot of them had lost their lives in the process as a result.

Mmaduka said the group had rescued most of them and sent them back to Nigeria, while some others had been sent to school in Malaysia by the group, noting that the trend was giving Ndigbo bad names.

He said: “ASWAM is disturbed by the increasing cases of Anambra State women and girls in Malaysia falling victims of sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation ”

“”ASWAM is therefore, employing community based and state wide campaigns to combat the menace of sex trafficking and other of commercial sex exploitation of Anambra women and girls in Malaysia ”

“We are taking the campaigns to our families, communities and traditional institutions here in Anambra State. We are raising awareness among our young people, parents, government and the public on the dangers therein ”

This problem has a very simple solution -POLYGAMY: our men who have the means should marry as many woman as they can afford to take care of. Problem solved!

But it needs EDUCATED mindset to solve it.

I did not say 'literate people", I said educated people because a lot of South Easterners are literate (some even have advanced degrees) but they are mostly not educated on things that impact their lives. They live borrowed cultures and fail miserably in the rest of their lives. They always fail to connect the borrowed culture with actual life situations.  That is why evil is multiplying in the place, and the society seem powerless to halt it. How about stepping back from where you derailed?

This problem was always inevitable when traditional institutions started to tow the Roman Catholic church's line on marriage and family.
If these institutions insisted on what worked before the ROMANS came to impose Roman marriage institution using the church, problems like this would never have arisen.

How do you solve the problem of UNMARRIED women in Igboland?

If a woman is there "gathering dust" clocking 35, 40, 45 years, what do you expect her to do?
She is unmarried, and free to do whatever she wants!

Now, we have our women becoming prostitutes in far away south east Asia, and I bet they would return with all manner of foreign sexually transmitted diseases, in time.

If Ndigbo don't retrace their steps and seek the truthful ways of their ancestors, the future is not looking bright for them, at all.

A word is enough for the wise.

There is a political angle to this problem, such as joblessness caused by the "Nigerian factor", but I would be lying if I said that it can be solved even if Nigeria were better economically. There would still be few who would choose to do this instead of working for survival. But if they were married, I doubt that they can do this.
That is why marriage and family re-engineering in Igboland is the permanent solution to things like this.
