Ohanaeze sends draft bill for S/East federation

As the Federal Government proposes Ruga settlements in various states of the country for herders, the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has submitted a proposal for a draft bill for the federation of South East states of Abia, Anambra , Ebonyi, Imo and Enugu.

The National President of the group, Mr Arthur Obiora said the draft bill has been sent to all state Houses of Assembly in the East for deliberation and passage.

The group urged Igbos in Delta and Rivers who wished to join the federation, to join.

Obiora noted that in view of the socio-political and structural conflicts in Nigeria, it has become necessary for Nigeria to go back to regional system with a level of autonomy for the federating regions .

“This will ensure faster development of the country and make rat race to control the centre less.”

He hoped the bill would be passed and other parts of Nigeria do the same.

The deputy spokesman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Chuks Ibegbu noted that there was nothing wrong with the draft and it is better the issue is addressed for the future of Nigeria.

On several levels, this is just an excellent idea.

Nigeria is now a country that you cannot trust to do the right thing, so the sooner people start planning for their own future the better.

What I love most about this idea is that it is a cornerstone of an idea (self determination) that others can copy and continue consulting their peoples about. If South East federation starts working together as one political region, it can start to make regional investments.

The fraud that Nigeria has been makes people think that a region like South East is small, but the region is big on its own. Anambra state, for example, is the smallest South East state in terms of landmass, but I've watched Youtube videos that shows that it takes hours to drive straight line (top speed) from one side of the state to the other.
Anambra state is bigger than Lagos State. Now imagine if 4 other states join with Anambra, it would become a HUGE area. There are also countless natural resources and water bodies in the region.
It is also good that they are not waiting for others. If others want to do the same, it is up to them.

So, on its own, it can become a thriving and safe area that can create jobs for its people and ensure security of life and property.
If other regions decide to do the same, and maybe join South East, soon a new Nigeria will emerge that is TOTALLY different from what we have today. It would be a new country where human beings are valued and have more dignity than cows!

A bold step taken by the Igbo's, I do hope other regions can take the same step as them.
