Ohanaeze leadership: Obiozor tackles detractors (Denies Being Sponsored by Miyetti Allah)

From Magnus Eze, Enugu

Former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States of America (USA) and leading contender for the position of Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General in the January 2021 election, Prof. George Obiozor, has said that the letter purportedly written by the Fulani socio-cultural group, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hotore, backing his nomination to lead the apex Igbo group, was ‘super fake”.

Obiozor, who was Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), said the letter was carefully churned out by his detractors to cast doubts over the leadership selection process of Ohanaeze, by suggesting that it was manipulated by the Fulani group.

He said no such letter was written by Miyetti Allah Kautal Hotore or any other group of the Fulani ethnic group.

He also described those behind the fake letter as “Pharaohs that don’t know Joseph”.

Obiozor, who was Nigeria’s ambassador to Israel, from 1999 to 2003, also served as High Commissioner to Cyprus and holds a pedigree many believe is not matched by other contestants for the Ohanaeze leadership.

Leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo rotates among all Igbo states and now berths in Imo State where different interest groups are up in arms against the choice of Obiozor by the Imo people who see him as most suited for the assignment given his national and international exposure and network.

Obiozor further said that, “anyone who has known me in the past 30-40 years, read any of my books, newspaper articles or television interviews will conclude as many have acknowledged that this concocted letter is a super fake in both expression; subject matter and contents.”

He also expressed gratitude to Imo State Ohaneze Ndigbo, elders, traditional rulers, youths and all Imo stakeholders for choosing him as their consensus candidate.

The denial may not be enough, because there is usually no smoke without fire.

I read the purported letter, and it seemed very genuine (to me), but I could be wrong.
Igbo leaders of late have proved highly irresponsible and dangerously too self-centred to advance and protect the collective interests of Igbo people.

Ever since the outgoing Ohanaeze leader went with Dave Umahi and Okezie Ikpeazu to disgrace themselves in Rivers state, I completely lost trust in these Igbo leaders. Completely.

Normally, one would have challenged the accusers to deliver more evidence to prove the allegation beyond all reasonable doubt, but the times have changed! Now Obiozor has to prove his readiness, and competence, to lead Ndigbo in these turbulent times. The burden of proof is on him and the Iwuanyanwus that selected him!

Igbo proverb says that someone once bitten by a snake takes flight at the sighting of the head of a lizard!
Igbo also say that a person once stung by a bee often runs away at the approach of a giant fly!

It is good that Obiozor should go through the crucible now -all his "sponsors" and "counter-sponsors", both friends and foe of Ndigbo, should take their shots at him now BEFORE he becomes the Ohanaeze leader.

If he survives between now and elections proper, and emerges leader, then we would know that our leader would be strong enough and fearless enough to lead Ndigbo. If we fail to elect a good Ohanaeze leader now, it would be a GRAVE mistake.

Every Igbo person should descend on Ohanaeze Ndigbo whenever this election takes place to ensure that a few corrupt Igbo men don't sell us to the worst of our enemies!

Onye nwere nti ya nuru o!

BTW, methinks that until Igbo leaders start to fear Igbo youths, Ndigbo may never get leaders who put them first.

The reason Arewa leaders never betray the North is because Northern youths don't spare them when they do.
No single governor in the North has condemned any of the terror groups in the North openly. NONE.
They are basically frightened of their youths. Fact!

But in Igboland, leaders quickly sell Igbo interest without batting an eye, and get away with it oftentimes!

If Igbo people want leaders who would put them first, they must hound away the thieves and the selfish fake leaders who sell them. No outsider can do that job for them, rather the outsider would seek to take advantage of such leaders.

If Igbo youths cure the problem of bad Igbo leaders, 95% of Igbo problems would disappear almost overnight!
Gospel truth!
