APC accuses rival party of campaigning with fake palace chiefs

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has said his aspiration is not worth the blood of the voters.

The candidate, who spoke to journalists said: “We were ready for the elections, but when the police belatedly raised the issue of security, there was nothing we could do.

“I would rather not be a governor than to have the blood of many people shed by miscreants that were imported into the state to cause havoc.”

Citing the violence in Rivers State, Obaseki queried: “How many people have been tried or charged to court for the wanton killings and violence in the state, let alone being convicted? How many people have been arrested for the blatant murder of the Port Harcourt lawyer?”

“These imported hoodlums have nothing to lose, they are not from Edo and would not think twice before killing our people the way they killed people in Rivers.”

Obaseki explained that it was disappointing that the election was postponed because the APC was already coasting home to victory.

He, however, said the APC would win the election convincingly any day it is held. He stated that the postponement was just a mere shift of the doomsday for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and others.

He said: “The people have made up their minds never to go back to the dark era. They know the lineage of my family. They can trace me back from four to five generations and discover that I don’t have a violent past.”

The Obaseki Campaign Organisation has however appealed to the APC members and supporters alike to remain steadfast and be vigilant, while awaiting further directives.

Meanwhile, a special adviser to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Mr. Charles Idahosa, yesterday accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of using fake palace chiefs to canvass for votes.

Idahosa alleged that the PDP had recruited some people dressed in the Benin traditional robes to campaign for the party.

According to the governor’s aide, the so-called palace chiefs have been telling the electorate that the palace had directed them to vote for the PDP.

Idahosa, who is Oshiomhole’s adviser on political affairs, said the PDP is desperate to win the election. He said the fake chiefs had visited some villages for their plot.
