Killing of ESN top commander: Hope Uzodinma has stirred hornet nest — IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has angrily reacted to the killing of a top commander of the Eastern Security Network, ESN simply identified as Ikonso, vowing to avenge the killing.

IPOB in a press statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary Emma Powerful strongly condemned the attack and promised: ” hell for all those who had a hand in the attack”.

IPOB which described the death of the ESN commander as ” very painful” accused Gov. Hope Uzodima of colluding with the security operatives to murder Ikonso for allegedly turning down the governor’s offer to head the Ebubeagu security outfit announced by South-East governors.

The pro-Biafra movement said that Uzodima had stirred the hornet nest and told him to get ready for “a sting”.

The statement read in part: “IPOB ably led by our great leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, strongly condemn the unprovoked attack on some members of IPOB and ESN operatives at Oguta junction at Mgbidi, along Owerri road Onitsha expressway by a joint security force comprising the army, police and DSS operatives, with the support of Imo State Government.

“The killing of the heroic innocent Biafrans protecting our communities and towns from Fulani terrorist herdsmen masquerading as cattle herders in cold blood is very painful.

” Hope Uzodinma and all those who had a hand in this wickedness will pay dearly. Hope Uzodinma and his cowardly Nigerian security agencies cannot confront Fulani terrorists but only flex their muscles when they see Biafra agitators.

“For murdering Ikonso, the ESN unit COMMANDER in a cold blood, Uzodima has stirred the hornet nest! He should get ready for a sting.

“Uzodima allegedly decided to kill Ikonso because he refused his offer to head Ebubeagu ghost security outfit formed by South-East governors.

” Uzodima has tried but without success to lure ESN operatives into EBUBEAGU. He had made irresistible offers to them which were turned down, hence his resorting to the elimination of these patriotic heroes who vowed never to betray Biafra.

“Hope Uzodinma sent a lot of emissaries to beg Ikonso and other ESN officers to join EBUBEAGU security outfit. So, because of their refusal to betray Biafra agitation and our Leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the governor mobilized joint security forces to attack them today.

“Contrary to claims by the cowardly security forces who flee from terrorists but kill innocent citizens, they were not able to penetrate into the camp of ESN. They only ambushed Ikonso but we promise them hell for this cowardly act!

“Hope Uzodima has murdered sleep, so he should be ready to stay awake! FULANI terrorists pretending as cattle sellers in Enugu destroyed Police van and attacked Government officials on lawful duty with AK-47 but no Army, police or DSS attacked them till now.

“But ESN operatives defending our communities against the terrorists are being hunted like games every day. The world has kept quiet over this atrocity until we begin our own madness.

“May Chukwu Okike Abiama accept the souls of our gallant men. Biafra shall always remember them and other fallen heroes for their heroism!

Since this news broke yesterday, it was really difficult to get an objective account of what really happened, in order for one to be properly guided.

This account here is the closest I could find that made most sense.

In conflicts like these, both sides use propaganda as weapon, and news commentators like us should read between the lines to get to the truth, since we are only commenting on publicly available information.

Next, I shall give my 2 kobo opinion on the substance of this story ...

The main question that came into my mind is this: Why exactly was this ESN commander killed?

If it is about the "unknown gunmen", IPOB has severally dissociated itself from their activities, and until an ESN member comes out openly to affirm that the outfit is the same as the unknown gunmen, the question remains, as to why the man was killed.

This question is CRUCIAL because the man was a known member of the security outfit (he never really hid his identity or the fact of his membership of ESN) whose openly stated goal is the ensure that Fulani ethnic militia masquerading as herdsmen do not plant a permanent foothold in eastern/Biafran lands through terror, rape and murders.

That is how majority of Igbo and other eastern Nigerians view the ESN.

They see the ESN as the only line of defense against Fulani (and their sponsors) to take over their land.

And, so far, there has not been any credible report that showed them engage in things other than dislodged armed Fulani terrorists.

Next I shall discuss the possible outcome of this death.

Drawing from the question raised earlier, most Igbo and easterners see "Ikonso" as a hero who laid down his life in defense of his ancestral lands.

One account from one of his close acquaintances I saw in a Youtube video stated that the man vowed that over his dead body would the Fulani rape his mother and sister. He was also "un-buyable".
He turned down offers to compromise his mission to defend his people.
The account also alleged that the man must have been captured alive and beaten to death because there were no signs of bullet wounds in his body.

So, in the absence of any other account from government (whose only line has been to portray the man as a terrorist, and whose modus operandi is to use the gruesome image of his death to frighten away others), one is safe to speculate that most Igbo are not happy with the man's death.  And knowing Igbo people very well, that "not happy" would likely transform to something much worse, for Nigeria.

Igbo people (and their eastern cousins) are like very powerful batteries that need time to charge. But when they become fully charged, their enemies better get out of the way.

Fulani have been invading, raping and killing people in eastern Nigeria with total impunity for years.
And now, when some men from that region decided to stop it, they are now made to face the full might of the Nigerian state that has essentially supervised Fulani terror in Nigeria for at least 6 years running.

"Ikonso" was like a corn, and Nigeria planted him in the soil now with this death.
A good student of history would understand that Ikonso will germinate and bear thousands of corns in due season.

One can safely reach this conclusion because most people (including yours truly) had never heard of the name "Ikonso" before now. So, in essence he is already becoming a legend.

Nigeria somehow never manage to do things right.
