Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, yesterday said he would sack any of his aides who insult President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress.

Umahi also warned that any of his appointees, who hitherto derived pleasure in talking down on his fellow governors across the country and their achievements, should henceforth, desist from doing so or have his or her appointment terminated.

Governor Umahi dropped the charge in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on New Media, Mr Francis Nwaze and made available to Vanguard in Abakaliki.
According to the Governor’s aide, anybody who wished to “throw unnecessary stone against any of the above mentioned leaders, should be ready to leave his government”.

Nwaze, in the statement, added “The Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE, has prohibited any of his political appointees from castigating or abusing the Nigerian President, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

“Doing such to any government or any Governor in this country has no value to add to his administration.
The Governor has advised that anyone who wishes to throw unnecessary stone against any of the above mentioned leaders, should, to in his or her own best interest, get ready to leave his government as such will attract immediate sack.

“Any posting, henceforth against the President, any Governor or government from any of his appointees will attract immediate termination of appointment by him.

“If you want to castigate the President, his government or any Governor, you must leave Governor Umahi’s office government first.“How does such castigation help the Governor’s government?.”

The statement quoted Governor Umahi as saying, that this would be his final warning to all his aides and others who had anything to do with his administration.

Statements like this should be LOGGED here to remind posterity of the craven and debased levels Nigeria's democracy was reduced to by men like Umahi.

Keep in mind that it hasn't even been up to five years since Jonathan allowed the people to have their say, and during which people like Buhari threatened fire and brimstone prior to the 2015 elections. In fact Buhari rode to power on the backs of such expression of free speech! Now he and his side-kicks like Umahi are doing their best to end free speech in Nigeria.

Buhar's supporters took FULL advantage of the protections of free speech granted by the Nigerian constitution to hound, insult, cajole, mock, ridicule, and even threaten Jonathan and his party the PDP. Yes, the same PDP that the David Umahis pretend to be members of.

Methinks that all these show of shame is reducing David Umahi rather than his Ebonyi people (certainly not the Igbo) in the eyes of even the Fulani that Umahi has enslaved himself to.

EFCC is the one acronym that likely summarizes Umahi's motivations, but Umahi fails to understand that Buhari cannot save him from that antigraft agency. His term of office ends in 2023 (barely four years from now) and he will have to answer for his handling of Ebonyi state finances.

A reference would do.

Orji Uzo Kalu is still fighting to escape jail after more than 12 years of leaving office!

Kalu has done essentially the same thing with presidents since 2007, and yet the EFCC's loose is still very much around his neck. He might even be jailed, in time!

What Umahi should concern himself with (what should worry him really) is his life outside of office; i.e. how will he face the youths of Igboland led by the IPOB? And of course he should worry about his date with EFCC, too.

He thinks that he will be picked to succeed Buhari, but I wouldn't bet my smart money on that, for MANY reasons.
His advisers seem not to be advising him well.

Umahi should never forget that by the time leaves office in 2023, he will certainly live in the same society with the same people he sacked for merely exercising  their freedom under the constitution.

I wonder what he will tell those people then.

Or does he think he will run an indefinite term of office? lol
