Don’t go for self help, Yakassai cautions S/East governors

ABUJA-Respected elder statesman and northern leader,  Alhaji Tanko Yakassai has advised governors of the five South-East states of Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi state not to resort to self help but to remain committed to the provisions of the constitution in the management of affairs of their respective states.

The former Presidential aide to President Shehu Shagari gave the advice yesterday while reacting to the ban of cattle movement in the South-East geo-political zone by the governors.

According to Yakassai, every Nigerian is constitutionally empowered to practice his trade in any part of the country, adding that where there are established cases of infractions, the security agencies should be called upon to do the needful.

He said: “The cattle do not move about on their own. There are herders who move them about and these herders are Nigerians. You cannot ask any Nigerian not to go to any part of the country because the constitution guarantees freedom of movement for all.

“If you are asking the Fulani not to move with their cattle,  will you also ban commercial drivers who ply various routes linking one part of the country to another?

“South-East leaders particularly elected officials must be careful of their utterances. The laws of the Nigerian state are binding on all. You cannot do anything outside what the constitution says. If you do, you are resorting to self help and that will not augur well for our country.

“Like I said earlier,  there is no point banning cattle rearers from moving about with their herds. Where there are established cases of cows eating up crops,  there are ways to deal with this and if there are issues bothering on security, we have the security agencies to call upon to do their job.”

Let me not waste time responding to the point being made by this self-serving northerner about the Nigerian constitution formed by northern military rulers and foisted on the country in the middle of the night.

At the end of the day, the impact of such constitution is real, and people have been dying because of it.
It is left to those people who are victims of it to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

The FINAL truth about this situation is that the governors really have only two possible choices:
 (1) To continue to do the bidding of those who fraudulently foisted a "constitution" on the people;
or
(2) To do the bidding of their people directly impacted by the so called constitution.

For years, the governors actually did the first, but in recent time, with the MASSIVE awareness growing among Nigerians (particularly the easterners) about the fraud that kills their people, the governors are now making a strategic readjustment.

Truth is that good governance only happens when the leaders fear the people.

The northern governors always fear the northern youths and hence have NEVER been party to calling them terrorists, or instigating any "operation kill and go" against northern youths.
Even Boko Haram (a world-class terror group) have never been called terrorist by northern governors.
Anyway I digress...

The point is that THANK GOD FOR IPOB, the governors of the east, for the FIRST TIME, are now starting to consider implementing the will of their own people.

The governors have come to realization, that they were fools for thinking that an oppressive system can keep them safe from the wrath of their own people. The Ekweremadu treatment and the new threats issued against them by the IPOB has brought them to a reckoning with the truth.
Governors have fixed terms, and they shall eventually leave office to live with the same people over whom they had supervised their murder by a jihadist regime. They have to choose between surviving in office and suriving their peoples anger. It is better for them to leave office than to be held accountable by their own people.

The choice is no brainer, and one thousand Yakassais cannot do a damn thing about it. Even a million Yakassais cannot stop the massive change coming to free the people from Fulani hegemony.

Methinks that the future Igbo leaders will even be more determined to support outright secession from Nigeria. Yakassai talks about Nigeria as if it is a final destination which cannot be questioned or challenged. The delusion that comes from long abuse of power causes such misjudgments.

Only a fool confines himself to playing the game invented by his enemy. A smart man invents his own game, and that is exactly what IPOB is doing for eastern Nigeria.
