LASG screens caregivers, demands quality service

The Lagos State Government says it is ready to screen caregivers operating in the state to ensure quality service delivery to children and the elderly.

The Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Agboola Dabiri, said the government would collate the data of the caregivers operating in the state with a view to regularising their operations and making them to comply with global standards.

Dabiri, according to a statement on Tuesday, spoke in Ikeja during a briefing on three-day ‘foundational training on professional childcare’ organised by the ministry in conjunction with Nanny Centre, operated by a certified member of International Nanny Association and a registered vocational trainer.

He stated that training certification would henceforth be one of the pre-requisites to operate children or elderly care centres in the state.

He said, “What the state government is saying is that it is unprofessional for anybody to become a self-acclaimed caregiver overnight without having the requisite knowledge of what the profession entails or without the needed training.”

He urged interested stakeholders to obtain participation forms from the ministry at the training centres in Beko Ransom Kuti Youth Centre, Anthony, and Sam Shonibare Youth Centre, Surulere.

I think it is a good move from the state government. Caregivers should not just anyone but people who are trained to give best care to elderly people and young ones.
