Fibroids are tumors that grow in the wall of the uterus or womb and are most common in women between the ages of twenty-five and forty-four. In serious cases, women may lose their womb preventing them from having children. Love News spoke with Dr. Marcelo Coyi who said that some of the symptoms women should look for are pain against the pelvic and heavy periods.

Dr. Marcelo Coyi Obstetrician & Gynecologist: It’s a benign tumor of the uterus but being benign; it has problems or can have problems. Its very common; its said about 1 in 10 women have Fibroids. We only worry about the Fibroids when it gives symptoms and the main ones  are heavy heavy vaginal bleeding at the time of a period. Big clots and what have you leading them to become anemic or they give a lot of pain; a lot of pelvic pain or they grow so big that they press upon the bladder so it gives urinary symptoms or presses on the rectum and gives recital symptoms and when they become systematic then we need to worry about it and we need to do treatment and the treatment depends on also wether she has had children before or not. If they haven’t had children we do something called a Myomectomy. If they have children or they don’t want any more children then we do something called hysterectomy.

Coyi said the earlier a woman detect it, she can preserve her fertility.

Translated from medical jargon to layman's term: REMOVAL OF THE WOMB.

This condition is very serious indeed.
