For all the craving for junks, cakes, pastries; we know deep down that we're taking in enormous amount of sugar than is good for our health.

1. Cook from scratch

May be a plate of spaghetti with a cod and tomato sauce. Start somewhere.

Cooking at home rather than eating at a restaurant or fast food outlet is the single most effective way to control levels of added sugar in your diet. Try making your own pasta sauces and dressings, and opt for homemade grain bowls, wholemeal pasta dishes and soups rather than buying from a café at lunch. It seems obvious that cakes and pastries contain the sweet stuff, but did you know that many processed and packaged foods also contain hidden sugar, including supposedly savoury items? You must find a way to keep track of little extras, such as condiments and sauces, that can inadvertently add lots of hidden sugar to your daily intake.

2. Opt for naturally sweet fruit and vegetables

You can choose banana  pancake with blueberry compote.

As you wean yourself off ‘free’ sugars – the type we are advised to cut back on – choose natural sources of sweetness like the fruit in our deliciously indulgent yet good-for-you wholemeal breakfast pancake. This will help your palate adapt and will keep you energised so you don’t experience a sugar crash. Naturally sweet fruit and vegetables, such as butternut squash, are packed with vitamins, minerals and fibre. Find out inspiring snack and sweet treat suggestions, designed to complement a healthy balanced diet; you can approach a health care professional or search online.

3. Eat enough protein and fat

It could be mushroom hash topped with a poached egg.

Include protein and healthy fats in all of your main meals – these macronutrients take longer to digest so they keep you fuller for longer, which is crucial for curbing cravings and keeping you satiated. The flavour-packed mushroom hash for example is a great breakfast, rich in protein and healthy fats from the poached egg. Some research has suggested that a satisfying, protein-rich breakfast can help you to make better food choices later on, so you may find yourself less likely to reach for the biscuit tin.

Interestingly, make effort to cut down on the in take of sugar. You don't have to eat the whole dining table just so people can consider you rich. Pay attention to your body so you can help yourself to avoid imbalances in diet and in turn enjoy life.
