A Nigerian psychiatrist, Dr Maymunah Kadiri has advised married women to have regular sex with their spouses in order to prevent depression and be happy.

Kadiri, who is the Medical Director of Pinnacle Medical Services gave the advice in a recent interview saying sex is not just to nourish a woman’s body, but it is also beneficial to her mental health.

“As women, there is need for us to make our spouses our best friends if we want to be mentally healthy. Studies have shown that women who have more active sex and in long term relationships were less likely to be depressed than women who went without sex.

So, more sex is important and essential. It is a remedy to curing women from having persistent headache. Low sexual drive, which leads to depression, should be looked into.

A woman can be depressed when that sexual drive that she used to have is no more there. Frequent active sex can play good roles toward women’s sense of well being and quality of life,’’ Kadiri said.

She explained that sex was not just for procreation and to have children, adding that it could create bonding, good companionship and sound sleep. Kadiri, popularly called ‘celebrity shrink’, urged women dealing with depression to frequently indulge in sex, while boosting their self-esteem.

I've come across a lot of studies that support this information.

Sex has been so "dis-understood" and misrepresented over many years because of  cultural and religious conflicts and shocks as human beings move around the world over many thousands of years.

But on very focused and close research/observation (devoid of religious bias), one comes to a conclusion that there is no way that sex is just for having children. The act and the process that takes place during the act is so detailed and intricate that one concludes that it must mean more than just making babies.

If God wanted it to be just about making babies, why is it so "sweet" (arguably the best natural human sensation there is!)? Why does it have to be so sensational and "sweet"?

Human beings embark on many natural acts such as defecation, urination, eating, drinking, sleeping, etc,but NONE comes close to the feelings that emanate from sex.

So, there has to be inner, deeper and more purposeful reason for the sensation and why the maker made it so powerful.

I suspect that in the future, science may actually prove that humans may be able to cure one another of diseases, and even improve partners' IQ levels through sex. Yup! My quack, yet thoroughly reasoned position on this subject.

I see sex the same way I see a piece of land. There are laws as to who would own it and how the owner would develop the land. But that doesn't mean that that is all there is to it. The land may not only be able to yield crops or allow for a building to  be erected there. The land may contain minerals, biochemicals which nourish plants or trees planted there which humans living there eat to derive nutrients from them. The land may have overflight rights, wind channels, and may even provide easement for other land owners as well. One land may contain everything that makes the person living there to live a longer life: air, water, plants, animals. Taken together, suddenly the piece of real estate starts to look entirely different. The land would no longer be about building a house or planting yam or cassava there.

Sex is just like that. It has been grossly underestimated.

The human mind is the inner sanctum of our being, and I wouldn't be surprised if lack of sex harms it in many ways.
