Why we must get rid of exam malpractice

By alagbe003 (M)December 27, 2016, 05:41:39 AM
Nigeria is a country where examination malpractices have become the order of the day, such that even parents lend their support to the illegal act. Many youths believe that they cannot be successful in any examination without getting involved in  examination fraud.  The consequence of this ignoble act to our country should not be underestimated, as it has  resulted in loss of credibility and confidence in the certificates earned from tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Worst still, nowadays, students don’t even take their studies serious, as the majority of them now depend on fraudulent means to pass examinations, instead of working hard to become masters in their chosen fields. Besides, the corrupt system of passing examinations should not be encouraged by parents,  teachers, host communities of examination centres, security agents and even school administrators, as aiding our youth to pass examination through illegal means will destroy the bedrock of our national  development.

Government needs to give attention to our educational sector, while effective penalties should be meted out  to those involved in the illegal act.  Examination bodies such as JAMB, WAEC and NECO should be sanitised through employment of officials of unquestionable integrity, to rid the country fromof corruption and examination fraud.

The success of the war against corruption might not be realisable, if this illegal act is not eradicated. Let’s  work together to sanitise our educational system for a better tomorrow.

Examination malpractice is the order of the day not only in Nigeria but around the world. Some students, parents and even teachers think it's not bad but then it is.  It causes students not read or pay attention while been taught in school so when they receive the degree or certificate they become blank and have nothing to offer to the society. They are a waste.  They are the reasons for collapsing buildings today, for death while performing surgery and lots of other hazards.  When I was in secondary school I was told there's imprisonment for those caught in this illegal act but how effective is that today. What are the corrective measures the minister and commissioners of education are taking to curb this act. Nigeria's tomorrow can have a solid foundation if we can institute changes in the education sector. Allow a child fail and learn from the mistakes such mistakes won't be made again and they become very good at it.

People tend not to connect the two, but they are like the seed and the tree.

Exam malpractices is very bad... It makes a student to lose self confidence in his intellectual abilities... Parents and school authorities should do their part in stopping this... Education sector will be better for it.

For examination malpractice to be eradicated totally from our academic institutions, many factors have to align, too many to be candid. So it is not likely.

"Sidetalks" as petty as it sounds is examination malpractice, even saying "bless you" to a sneezing or coughing mate. I mean one of the primary practice in writing examinations is to remain "dumb" while at it. You shouldn't talk all...

Bar that, parents registering their kids in "miracle centers", buying questions for their kids from rogues that are part of examination bodies, kids sneaking texts in, bringing phones into exam halls, teachers teaching answers to their favorite students, boyfriends helping "below average" girlfriends in order to show love, friends entering exam halls with wonderful and well-planned formations that even best strategists can only dream of, kids keeping tiny pieces of paper in their socks, or under their belts or in their pants, kids with answers carefully inscribed on their forearms, thighs or neighbours backsides... Uh! All of these and many more... All crazy!

So I believe we can reduce it... I strongly believe we can "reduce" examination malpractice.

It is killing the students, thereby killing the nation.
