One of Nigeria’s most popular and successful actors, Yul Edochie, son of legendary actor, Pete Edochie may have opened a can of worms by his assertion on Twitter a couple of days back.

The politician-cum movie star by his statement affirmed that there is truly casting couch syndrome, commonly known as ‘sexual harassment’ in the industry, adding that many male practitioners have been wrecked by the law of karma in this regard.

Edochie tweeted, “ I condemn sex for jobs completely. If na your way, hear this advice. If you promise a girl a job in exchange for sex, once she gives you, make sure you do not fail her. If she swears for you, your own don finish. This matter has wrecked many men, especially Nollywood practitioners.”

Yul Edochie, who was named after a popular Russian actor, Yul Brynner has become something of a social commentator on social media, dishing out admonitions and inspiration on social issues on a regular basis.

Well, I don't think it is only in Nollywood that this advice should apply.

Very early in life, I was give an advice by a grounded senior brother who has deep insight on these types of things.

His advice to me was very simple and direct: If you sleep with a woman, MAKE SURE YOU GIVE HER SOMETHING VALUABLE IN RETURN.
Never take her word that she did it "out of love". Nope.
Because she'll later claim that you used and dumped her!
So, give her something. Give her something she cannot refuse if possible!
Then you are free from her afterwards.

He said that even if the woman refuses your gift, you should insist she gets to keep it one way or another.
He said that by making sure that you gifted her with something, should would never be in a spiritual position to place any curse or bad wish or anything like that on you.

If the woman has a certain non-monetary need; fulfil that need. If she asked for nothing; buy her a useful gift if you suspect she would not accept money.
He said that by doing so, you buy yourself freedom from her later feeling of "he used me and dumped me, therefore he is bad and blah ...., therefore he hurt me, ... therefore he must pay..."

This Nollywood sex-for-role "thingy" is OLD, and I suspect it would not go away easily because of our people's basic mindset.

Not to insult anyone, but A LOT of these Nollywood ladies seem to me like those types that first offer themselves to men (directors mainly) even if he doesn't want, and then later start to complain of being used and dumped.

People should learn to play fair. Women who offer themselves to men, and men who demand sex for roles in movies, do not play fair. They deny genuinely talented actors and actresses fair roles in the movie industry.

I do not pity all these Nollywood sex-for-role victims -at all-  because they offered themselves for sex, and they are adults. They were not raped.

If a role demands that you sleep with anybody (man or woman) you ALWAYS have the option of saying NO.
